The Night at Black Flamingo

It was a typical evening with Snake Healer at Black Flamingo Brewery in Pompano Beach, Florida. The night started casually as Jahziel Sainz (Jaz for short) and I grabbed some bites from a Colombian food truck parked out front—a perfect start. The venue was quiet, except for a few early patrons.

As more band members arrived, the conversations flowed—ranging from mundane banter to deep dives into the local music landscape. Marlon (who was our bass player) joined soon after, always a source of good humor. Niuvis and Josh came and added some fun and got a few drinks.

Setting up our merch table, we snapped a few photos before it was time to hit the stage. Adorned in our cloaks and equipped with in-ear monitors, we executed our set flawlessly, emphasizing the fog effects during key moments of our performance. The reception was heartwarming—a true sense of accomplishment.

Post-set, we gathered around our merch corner for a quick team huddle, celebrating a well-received show. The night was filled with familiar faces, including Carlos and the Campbell brothers from Thudge—it was always a pleasure to have such talented and cool personalities around.

The last band of the night, Angry Bastard, perhaps overstayed their welcome with a set that stretched a tad too long. It’s a local show; tight and concise is typically the way to go. Despite this, it was a fulfilling night for all bands involved.

The spirits remained high despite the brewery running low on some beer varieties. Jaz spent the latter part of the evening hanging out with Iron Buddha and getting wasted since the booze was on the house for us band members, and as the night wound down around 2 AM, we contemplated a late-night food run.

One of the highlights for me was resisting the urge to start a mosh pit during Iron Buddha’s set. Next time, I won’t hold back—it’s been too long, and I’m ready to dive back into that exhilarating fray.

Reflecting on nights like these reminds me why I cherish the local scene. It’s raw, real, and resonates with the passion each of us brings to the stage. Stay tuned for more tales from the underground as I continue to explore, play, and live out loud.
