Welcome to Live and Loud, where I bring you along on my auditory and visual journeys as a local musician entrenched in the South Florida heavy rock and metal music scene. Everything penned here reflects my unabashed, personal opinions—whether it’s about friends, fellow bandmates, or local acts we all know. Remember, these reflections are rooted in my personal tastes and experiences. Ultimately, we all contribute uniquely to our scene. Consider this blog my personal sounding board, offering you a window into the life of someone who plays and interacts within our dankass local scene.

Throwback Local Events – Bar Nancy, Miami, FL

Performed on: July 22, 2023

So, Jaz and I show up at this place called Bar Nancy, right in the heart of Cubantown, Miami. Parking’s a pain, so we traveled light. We park and run into the promoter, Oski Gonzalez—DJ Oski, of the Oski Foundation, you name it, he was there… eating. We’ve known him since around 2008 when I was with Hyimn. We’ve had our ups and downs, but here we are, still standing. funny we’ve played in his shows numerous times somewhat 15+ shows but like always he asked us for our names just like if it is the first time we met him.

The venue’s got this rad nautical vibe—ship stuff everywhere. We check out the sound, and it’s looking good. We snagged a killer spot to set up our merch in the front to the right.

The first band up is Ambush. They’re a classic rock band, but honestly, their songs drag on, and that guitar tone…ugh. Needs tons of work. The drummer’s solid, though, and the bassist is rocking some leather bell-bottoms with a killer bass. Chris shows up with his snake again—too cool.

Next is Serpent Eye. We’ve played with them before, so we know they’re good. The sound is balanced, and the energy is high. People are digging it, which is a good sign for the rest of the night.

Seven Sins comes on next, with a Slipknot vibe that’s pretty neat. Then it’s our turn—Snake Healer. It took a while to set up, getting the monitors and fog machine just right. The soundcheck dragged on, and Marlon was off by half a measure on “Evocation,” plus he was super loud for some reason. I messed up a few parts—too many for my liking. I need more practice, no doubt.

But you know what? Despite all that, the crowd freaking loved it. That’s what matters, right? I’m good with it. I know what I need to work on.

Finally, Worldeater wraps up the night. Their sound is on point, a real treat to listen to. I’m glad we get to enjoy this journey with bands like Serpent Eye and Worldeater.

Aint that cute?
