Welcome to Live and Loud, where I bring you along on my auditory and visual journeys as a local musician entrenched in the South Florida heavy rock and metal music scene. Everything penned here reflects my unabashed, personal opinions—whether it’s about friends, fellow bandmates, or local acts we all know. Remember, these reflections are rooted in my personal tastes and experiences. Ultimately, we all contribute uniquely to our scene. Consider this blog my personal sounding board, offering you a window into the life of someone who plays and interacts within our dankass local scene.

Throwback Local Events – Propaganda, Lake Worth, FL

Performed on: May 11, 2023

This day started off early. I went to grab the gear from the warehouse, Jaz added extra things but I’m not surprised. We needed them anyway so I took them with me. It takes me an hour to get the the venue. Parking is a nightmare like always. If you ever go, make sure you get there early. So I got in quite early and waited for one to open. Even when getting early you’ll probably still look for parking.

Anywho, I met an interesting subset of people who are in a metal club. Jaz was talking to me about it over the phone called The Legion of the Seven Churches. They are a band of metal heads from different regions of the world. They support local metal scenes and with somewhat good intentions are unbiased about metal… kinda. That’s pretty neat I guess, I just shrug it off and go on inside.

Anyway, the night starts off with the first band Papillon. Not too bad they have some cool riffs and some chugs that caught my ear. We went up after them. Jaz “lost” his bag of cables. Rather misplaced it when we found it later that evening. So Jaz made the executive decision to have one guitar. Up to this point in Snake Healer, we’ve been playing with 2 guitar players. That put me in a strange position. To be honest, it made me scared shitless. I’m standing with my gear setup running through riffs in my head. Running solos, and making sure I don’t fuck up at all.

We went through the set, I stomped the shit out of the fog machine to make Snake Healer more theatrical. Cheese on cheese on cheese makes the sandwich more tastier! Jaz doing his thing and walking around spreading terror into people’s eyes and I’m doing my thing and trying not to fuck it all up. I did some prayer theatrics and looked all ominous. Overall it ended up pretty good played pretty well and I got like one sour note. Better than a whole song.

So Lybica was next, I heard that the guitar player was from Killswitch Engage which is killer as fuck. They sounded good. Super tight, just as a professional band is supposed to sound. However; I didn’t get the chance to talk to Justin Foley. WorldEater was the last band of the night. This was their Album release show and overall the performance was good but IMO they could use some vocal practice and possibly a second guitar to be able to counter some of the ridiculously fast parts that Alex the guitar player/singer is doing. It’ll probably do them some good. The guys are good people though. Well, I gotta get into it, looks like Jaz is feeding me a bunch of drinks and I can’t keep up here and gotta network a bit.
